1950s

Between 1949 and 1987, Maija Isola designed over 500 fabric prints, of which some fifty designs of different styles and periods are included in Marimekko's current fabric collection. Many of the motifs for the fabrics of the 1950s express Isola's deep love of nature. At the end of the decade, she created the Nature series which featured patterns produced by a method similar to the photogram technique. The precise natural forms of the designs were achieved by using real plants when exposing the patterns. In the 1950s, Maija Isola also designed a variety geometric fabric patterns, such as the Kivet and Pohjanmaa prints.
