KONE and Marimekko Enter into Cooperation on Elevator Car Interiors

KONE and Marimekko have signed an agreement to start cooperation under license concerning the decoration of elevator car interiors. The agreement provides an opportunity to apply Marimekko design to elevators by decorating the internal walls of an elevator car with a decorative laminate. Marimekko designs will be part of the KONE Deco™ solution, offering high-quality design alternatives to supplement other KONE Deco™ designs.

The KONE Deco™ solution ranges from predefined solutions to fully customized solutions and it can be applied to both new and existing elevators. The KONE Deco™ solution covers the full service from the decoration planning to material installation and replacement. The decoration can be changed to suit the place and event, even several times a year.

"Our cooperation with KONE opens up entirely new horizons, combining Finnish design, quality and technological expertise in a new and innovative way. Applying Marimekko designs to elevator cars will turn the ride into an experience that can be continued in other interior designs of the building. The agreement reflects the goal of both parties to make design a part of people's everyday lives," says Kirsti Paakkanen, President, Marimekko Corporation.

"KONE has recently focused on increasing the extent of design in all its business areas. With our solutions, we will provide our customers with more customized and simultaneously stylish solutions. Bringing Marimekko design into KONE elevators is a unique addition to our solution portfolio. These two strong international brands will strengthen each other and provide architectural planning with a new dimension. I am very pleased to announce our partnership, which will enable us to provide architects and our customers with a widened range of leading customized solutions," says Matti Alahuhta, President, KONE Corporation.

The KONE Deco™ solution will provide architects with increased architectural freedom. It will support other architectural choices of the building, and can be used to change the mood of the elevator according to the building and occasion.
