New Marimekko Fabrics by Internationally Renowned Top Designers

In spring 2007, Marimekko launches a new, versatile interior collection including flameretardant Trevira CS curtain fabrics as well as cotton upholstery fabrics. Top Nordic designers Björn Dahlström, Anna Danielsson, Harri Koskinen and Ilkka Suppanen have created a modern, minimalist collection, with the aim of evoking positive feelings. The fresh and energetic colours of the fabrics work as an effective background in a space. The collection epitomises Marimekko’s strong design expertise, offering the world innovative views on interior decoration.

Björn Dahlström’s finely crafted graphic designs Ro and Stilla bring to mind leaves that are blown by the wind, or that float on the surface of the water. The leafy patterns composed of thin lines feature the same sophisticated signature style as Dahlström's furniture designs.

Anna Danielsson’s Spinning design explores the space between abstract and figurative patterns. It creates an ambiance for active life and being together in different kinds of environments.

The clean and graphic Frekvenssi, Elementti and Monumentti fabric prints by Harri Koskinen bring a completely new look to Marimekko design. Fundamentally abstract motifs, shapes and lines develop into systems, causes and effects. The different colourways provide a variety of ambiances.

Ilkka Suppanen’s Marhaba pattern is influenced by the mathematical and logical figures characteristic of Arab culture. This non-figurative print was inspired by a pattern the designer had seen in a caliph’s window. The Lines design has stripes that form a kind of stave, a background for a composition, around which different activities flow in an interesting way – just like in real life. Suppanen’s patterns continue Marimekko’s strong tradition in the design of graphic fabric prints.

The new collection will be presented for the first time in the Nordic countries at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in Sweden from 7 to 11 February 2007 on Marimekko's stand C05:41.
