Marimekko is awarded an Honourable Mention in the Design Management Europe Award (DME Award), which is part of the EU's ADMIRE project (Award for Design Management Innovating and Reinforcing Enterprises). The DME awards were presented at a gala ceremony at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany on 22 November 2007.

The DME Award, organised now for the first time, comprised six categories: micro, small, medium-sized and large companies, public sector (NPOs/NGOs), and newcomer of the year. Over 230 companies and organisations from 21 European countries participated in the competition. The field of participants was deep and extraordinarily competitive. Marimekko competed in the category for large companies and, according to the organisers, its achievement highlighted not only its superior work but also the overall excellence of the competition in this category. All award-winning companies and organisations will be presented on the DME website, in a yearbook, and in a special exhibition.

The DME Award acknowledges the corporate value of design management and highlights the achievements of competitively selected companies and organisations – to reliably measure their success for the first time within the scope of a European Union competition.
