Marimekko design classics as well as more recent works are on show in the “Northern Stars” exhibition presenting Finnish design of the past and present century in Instituto Tomie Ohtake in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The touring exhibition realized by the Design Museum in Helsinki is on view from 10 March until end of April.
Visitors can get acquainted with Finnish design extensively through five themes: national–international, nature, materials as starting points, pure form and innovations. From Marimekko’s production, the exhibition showcases the works of well-renowned masters Maija Isola, Vuokko Nurmesniemi and Annika Rimala as well as more recent Marimekko pattern designs from Maija Louekari, Miina Äkkijyrkkä and Sanna Annukka. A collection of Marimekko dresses throughout the company’s nearly 60 years is also on display.
Last year, the “Northern Stars” exhibition was on display in Lima, Peru at Galleria Germán Krüger at the Instituto Cultural Peruviana Norteamericano. After Sao Paolo, “Northern Stars” will continue to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
