WHY NOT TOGETHER IN BERLIN
Four Seasons with Marimekko

During the DMY International Design Festival Berlin from 1 to 5 June 2011, Marimekko will conduct interactive workshops at the MakerLab area in the Festival under Marimekko’s 60th anniversary theme Why Not Together. In Berlin, this theme of doing things together will be explored from the angle of Four Seasons with Marimekko.

Distinct seasons play a special role in Finnish society and also affect how Marimekko creates products. The extreme seasons in Finland ranging from cold, dark winters to brightly colourful summers shape the mood and behaviour of all people living in the country. The seasons also influence and inspire the Marimekko designers when creating prints, selecting colours, and deciding on the sort of products based on ways of living in each season.

In the Marimekko workshops at the DMY Festival, each day will be marked by a specific season. The workshop activities will investigate how people feel and behave on an international level for each of the seasons. Through the workshops, Marimekko will invite people to create things together using Marimekko fabric off-cuts. These creations will be strongly linked with the discussion of habits, behaviour, rituals, traditions and activities that come from the audience.

In addition, Etsy, an online service and community that helps people buy and sell all things handmade, vintage and supplies, will conduct workshops every day in the Marimekko space at the festival.

Marimekko invites everyone to visit our Four Seasons with Marimekko workshops and investigate the theme together.
