Erja Hirvi

Designer:

The best advice anyone ever gave me - everything is possible, by my father.

My best design moment: Almost everyday. Especially when I get excited about something I see or get a good idea.

My greatest fashion icon: No icons, darling, you have to trust yourself

The most important thing to remember when decorating a room: Not to try to decorate it; create a space where you feel good

I work best when: I'm trusted

My first memory of Marimekko: The university library during my studies; I found lots of interesting books showing Marimekko fabrics

The Marimekko product I use all the time: My silver-medal bag

When I travel I always take: A camera

The colour that means courage to me: Colours don't mean courage; you need courage to use them

My favourite escape: My imagination

I relax by: Doing some repetitious physical task where I don't have to think

Sketch by hand or click on computer? Draw and paint by hand

If I were not working as a designer, I would be: Doing something else creative like gardening, definitely not working nine-to-five
