Paavo Halonen

Designer:

My greatest fashion icon: Andrée Putman and David Bowie.

The most important thing to remember when decorating a room: Rich and constantly changing elements. Flowers in pots and vases. Prints and colors, satin and cotton. Things with a slight kitsch twist.

My most important mentor: So many people influence my work and way of thinking in different ways, for example Ismo Kajander and Göran Torrkulla. I’ve also learned a lot from a younger generation of designers and artists like Emma Helle, Jenni Tuominen, Viivi Lehto, Milla Vaahtera and Hanna Anonen.

My creative philosophy: Enjoy your work, tell a story.

Marimekko and me: Ever since I’m little.

I wish: August, gardens, parties, colored lanterns hanging from trees. Maria Callas, silence or the sound of whooping loons and swans in the background.

My favorite scent: Gucci edt and forest.

My first job ever: Farm relief worker.

My favorite escape: Eastern Savonia and especially Lake Kolvonen.

I relax: on the couch.

If I were not working as an artist, I would... be a gardener.
