UNIKKO EVENTS: LUX HELSINKI
Marimekko & Ateneum – Unikko at
La Louvière
Pride Unikko

In 2024, Marimekko celebrates the 60th anniversary of the design icon Unikko. Maija Isola's Unikko is not only a much-loved pattern around the world but also a connection between Ateneum and Marimekko.

Isola was studying at Suomen Taideakatemian
koulu, Ateneum, when Armi Ratia discovered her for Marimekko. Now, Maija Isola returns to Ateneum
as her most famous work, Unikko, is projected onto the art museum's façade to celebrate the Colour Light – The Legacy of Impressionism exhibition.

A masterpiece of Finnish neo-impressionism, Alfred William Finch's pointillist painting Orchard
at La Louvière meets the Unikko pattern in a light installation by Katri Tikkanen and Matti Ahopelto.

Unikko at La Louvière, created using the pointillism technique, is a tribute to colors, the joy of life, and Finnish design and visual arts.

Katri Tikkanen is a Helsinki-based artist and visual designer whose work primarily focuses on motion graphics and digital media. Her long-running collaboration with Marimekko includes projects like the Marimekko Botanical Garden exhibition at Matsuya Ginza’s Design Gallery 1953 in Japan.

Matti Ahopelto is a composer, sound designer, music producer, and artist from Helsinki. He is known for his rich use of musical textures and seamless music and sound design integration.
