From waste to swimwear

Earth-loving ECONYL® fiber

The spring/summer 2022 collection introduces Marimekko’s first sustainable swimwear collection, made of ECONYL® recycled nylon. Nylon is polyamide.

ECONYL® fiber is recycled nylon waste. It’s similar to standard nylon and can be recycled again at the end of its life.

The circularity starts by rescuing waste, like fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring, and industrial plastic from all over the world. The waste is then sorted and cleaned to recover all of the nylon possible.

The nylon waste is recycled back to its original purity through a regeneration and purification process. ECONYL® recycled nylon is processed into yarns and polymers for the fashion and interior industries, and it has the potential to be recycled infinitely, without losing its quality.

As well as being a solution on waste, ECONYL® recycled nylon is also better when it comes to climate impacts. It reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% compared with traditional nylon. (econyl.com, 2022)
