Marimekko had its traditional public fashion show, an annual start to the summer season, on Friday 20 May 2016 at the Esplanade Park in Helsinki. Continuing the tradition Marimekko started already in 1992, the event was free of charge and open to everyone.

"Marimekko's annual fashion show in the heart of Helsinki has become a part of the urban culture of the city during the past 25 years, and every year it gathers together thousands of people to celebrate the beginning of the summer with colors and patterns. Inviting the public to fashion shows is a phenomenon that has recently gained a lot of interest around the world and for us this approach is very natural. We think that good design should be a part of everyday life and belongs to all of us. Our event at the Esplanade Park is a tribute to all friends of Marimekko and I hope that people enjoyed our joyful show this year as well", says Marimekko's President and CEO Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko.

The clothes featured in the fashion show are from Marimekko's spring and summer 2016 collection that premiered at Paris Fashion Week last October. The collection is the first one created entirely under the direction of Marimekko's new Creative Director Anna Teurnell. All clothes presented on the runway are available at Marimekko stores as well as online.
