The wardrobe guide: Marimekko archetype silhouettes tried and tested by Stephanie Broek

To make the getting dressed game feel like a breeze, we proudly introduce the new Marimekko archetype silhouettes, featured in our dresses, skirts, and blouses. We invited Eloise Jaksic to style our archetypes in her way.

The best news is that the new Marimekko archetype silhouettes don’t have an expiration date and are therefore a great way to build a sustainable signature style. But how to get started in refining your wardrobe? Narrating your style and preferences in words is a great way to define the archetype you’re most comfortable with.

Recognising the different silhouettes that best compliment your figure and personality is a quintessential part of building a signature style. The three new archetypes are modernised versions of the iconic Marimekko dress shapes we’ve been presenting through the decades – the reason our empowering, beautifully airy pieces have become so loved around the world. We asked digital content and lifestyle creator Eloise Jaksic to style the archetypes in three different ways.

Archetype 1: A-line
This is "Marimekko's easiest and most classic shape," says Eloise. "It has a fitted bodice on the shoulder and flares out to create the shape of the letter A without a well-defined waistline. Provides a great canvas for big and bold Marimekko prints." Eloise's Styling Tip: "It's a great dress to take you from day to night. Buttoned all the way up with a casual shoe during the day then simply undo a few buttons, add a heel and a dressy handbag and you're ready for drinks!"

Archetype 2: Straight
Eloise describes this archetype as "simple and minimalist". "The straight cut instantly gives you a polished and elegant look. It's a great canvas for graphic & geometric prints," she says. Eloise's Styling Tip: "Instant elegance! The dress is a statement on its own however, due to the straight shape it is also great for layering."

“Modular thinking is part of Marimekko's profound take on responsible and timeless design. he best part is they can be worn countless different ways. There are literally so many options. ”

Archetype 3: Fit & Flare
Eloise calls this archetype "the most artistic of them all". "It features a gathered and cinched in, well-defined feminine waistline. It is the hero piece to any outfit and is a great canvas for all Marimekko prints," she says. Eloise's Styling Tip: "This top and skirt are the perfect combo but are just as strong as individual pieces styled back with a plain shirt or skirt."
