Works of Marimekko designers exhibited in Japan

Works of Marimekko designers will be exhibited in two exhibitions in Japan. The works of Marimekko designer Fujiwo Ishimoto will be showcased in an exhibition entitled Textiles and Ceramics − Winter, organized in the Spiral Garden, the first floor of renowned Spiral in Tokyo. Open from 12 December 2012 to 14 January 2013, the exhibition will celebrate Ishimoto’s long career by displaying the designer’s distinctive ceramics designs and Marimekko textiles.

In Fukuyoka, an exhibition entitled “The Warp and Weft of Finnish Design” features Marimekko textiles in a special environment: the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Open from 1 December until 10 March, the exhibition introduces interesting Finnish textile designs and their colourful contrast to the dark winters of Finland. The exhibition demonstrates the close relationship between Marimekko design and nature by displaying colourful Marimekko textiles in an outdoor venue, within the shrine’s natural historic grounds. Inside the shrine, works of renowned Finnish and Japanese designers, such as Maija Isola and Fujiwo Ishimoto, will be showcased in a special exhibition hall. The exhibition seeks to develop further the flourishing of cultural exchanges between Japan and Finland.

Both exhibition spaces have been designed in collaboration with IMA architects.
