Hand-painted Oiva collectibles

Distinctive pieces of art

It's the 10th anniversary of Marimekko's Oiva (superb) tableware, designed by Sami Ruotsalainen. To celebrate the jubilee, Marimekko introduces a limited-edition collection of oversized, hand-painted Oiva cups and bowls. The unique pieces were born from an idea to create something special for the joyous occasion.

"At Marimekko, there is always room for joy and experimenting – and that's what these unique pieces are all about. The jubilee Oiva pieces can be seen as sculptures as well as homeware. The use of these oversized, charismatic items is up to the imagination."

The limited-edition collection features a total of 100 numbered items, hand-painted at the ceramics factory by Sami Ruotsalainen and Maija Louekari, the designer behind the beloved Siirtolapuutarha (city garden) and Räsymatto (rag rug) prints.

In the paintings, sketch-like floral shapes are complemented with more abstract lines, reflecting Marimekko's design language. The colour palette is based on black, enlivened by a few luscious colours. Each cup and bowl is a distinctive piece of art.

The Oiva cups and bowls were hand-painted at the ceramics factory by Sami Ruotsalainen and Maija Louekari.

"Inspired by the lush greenery and energetic, wild growth of tropical gardens, we painted the cups and bowls with bold brushstrokes. The result is a range of slightly surrealistic one-of-a-kind pieces that come with surprises."
