Something completely new from Marimekko's creative community! Mari Magazine is a 122-page editorial publication that has been put together to bring joy to our friends around the world.
The very first issue is all about flowers, Marimekko's theme for 2020. Fashion is omnipresent throughout the colorful pages.
To give you sneak peek, our cover star Suvi Riggs is seen in a warm collage, shot close to her California home by her husband, photographer Tyler Riggs. We see flowers in the inspirational homes of Marimekko people, and ten amazing photographers introduce us to their own favorite flowers. We also delve into the role of flowers in the history of fashion.
Mari Magazine was offered as a gift with purchase. Unfortunately, the limited-edition publication is not available anymore.
Notes on flowers
Ten photographers open up about the flowers they love. Meet Chloé Le Drezen, Vicki King, Johanna Laitanen, Sophie Green, Fumiko Imano, David Urbano, Ola Rindal, Camille Vivier, Osma Harvilahti and Jukka Ovaskainen.
“My mother used to have anemones in her garden when I was a kid. I photographed this one in London in December. There is just something about anemones that always catches my eye.”
Jukka Ovaskainen is a Finnish photographer who has been based in London since 2014. His images, pale and ghostly, have landed on the pages of fashion magazines like SSAW, Re-Edition, Hearts and Modern Matter.
The art of printmaking – pattern design and textile printing.
Maija Isola
“As an artist, the most important thing to Maija Isola was creativity, and her bold, graphic and colorful style laid the foundation for the design DNA for which Marimekko’s patterns are still known today.”
California dreamin’
Suvi Riggs might be one of Finland’s most famous faces, but home is where the heart is. For Suvi, that’s in California with her husband, kids, and garden.
Laying down roots
Marimekko has always been at home with flowers. So are the people who work there.
“Marimekko’s flowers have always been in a class of their own – glamorously natural, invigoratingly colorful, and sparking eternal joy. And they remain just as bright even as the years pass. This spring, Lotta Maija’s Kasvio (Flora) blooms to life with lush nature and shades of lilac. I love hydrangeas and the scent of lilacs – I like to fill my home with these creatures of nature.”
