Maija Louekari is a Helsinki-based freelance illustrator and designer. The starting point of her career was in 2003.
That’s when she won a design competition co-organized by Marimekko and the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Inspired by small observations of everyday life, Maija’s patterns combine narrative line drawing with skillful use of powerful color surfaces. Her most recognizable designs for Marimekko are Siirtolapuutarha (city garden) and Räsymatto (rag rug).
