Pattern Story: Tasaraita
Even stripes for equality.
Designed by Annika Rimala, 1968
In the 1960s, when denim began to become increasingly popular among both women and men, Annika Rimala wanted to design a collection of cotton jersey clothes to go with jeans - for everyone regardless of age, size or gender. That's how Marimekko's first cotton jersey collection, Tasaraita (even stripe) was born in 1968. Evenly striped, expressing equality.
In 2019, we continue taking action for equality by donating $1 for each purchase of select Tasaraita garments. Each purchase helps drive children's rights and equality for girls.
