Unikko (poppy) was born after Armi Ratia, Marimekko's founder, had announced that Marimekko would never print a flower pattern. The opinionated artist Maija Isola protested by creating an entire series of gorgeous floral prints in 1964. One of them was Unikko which today stands for creativity, strength, courage and faith in oneself. The iconic pattern is here to stay - this season coziness comes in lustrous gold.
