Lappuliisa

2010

Created by Maija Louekari, the Lappuliisa (meter maid) design is a riot of color and exciting details. The idea for the pattern originates from DIY potholders the designer had been admiring when visiting flea markets. The motifs were printed in a way that they overlapped in places. This ensured that the final print was as colorful as the old potholders. The Finnish title Lappuliisa is a pun: the pattern depicts potholders, and potholder is in Finnish patalappu. The word “lappu” has several meanings – a parking ticket is sakkolappu, hence lappuliisa, literally “ticket Lisa”.
