The Hohtosini dress is made of cotton in the Pikku Lokki and Pieni Unikko patterns. The dress has a short button list with metal buttons in the front and gathers at the yoke seams and the dropped waistline. The voluminous sleeves have gathers and slits at the sleeve ends and single-button cuffs.
To celebrate our 70th anniversary, we have invited interesting creatives to reinterpret Marimekko's design language and philosophy. The result is Marimekko Co-created.
The third capsule was made in collaboration with Japanese fashion designer Wataru Tominaga.
Marimekko’s famous poppy pattern Unikko was born in 1964 in a time when the design house’s collections featured mostly abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to create something interesting from this organic theme and designed an entire range of floral prints. Today, the iconic flower represents creativity.
The idea for the Lokki (seagull) pattern came to Maija Isola when she was looking at a window with a curtain drawn across it. The sun was shining, and the wide folds of the curtain formed wavy shadows on the fabric. Maija had a sudden inspiration: if a fabric is printed with waves, even a small piece of such fabric appears abundant, richly folded.
