When cherished and properly cared for,
Marimekko designs will bring joy for years to come.
For Marimekko, sustainability means respecting people and the environment in everything we do. Our objective is that, when properly cared for, our products can be handed down from one generation to the next. To succeed in this, we need your help.
Prolonging the life span of clothing is an efficient way to reduce its environmental impact. It is estimated that almost 80%* of the emissions during the full life span of a long-lasting garment are emitted when washing, drying and ironing.
*Estimate made by Demos Helsinki for Marimekko of emissions caused during a ten-year use of a cotton garment.
For clever care
Don't wash your clothes too often. Remove stains manually, and if possible air the clothes after each use. By reducing the number of times you wash your garments, you can actively help to reduce your carbon footprint.
The recommended washing temperature is the highest temperature at which the item can be washed. The text "follow the recommended washing temperature" means that the item can be damaged if washed at a lower temperature.
The best washing result is often achieved by using a moderate amount of a detergent that is suitable for the material. Using too much detergent will not guarantee a clean outcome. Fabric softeners should also be dozed with caution or refrained from completely, depending on the material.
Hang dry your clothes when possible – you save energy when compared to tumble drying, and your clothes will retain their shape longer too. Think of ironing only when necessary. To minimize creasing, remove clothes from the washing machine and hang dry them as soon as the wash cycle has finished.
Our products carry a Clevercare label, which helps you to care for the items properly. On the Clevercare.info website, you can find more care instructions that are good for the environment and your product.
