Marimekko’s summer fashion show in Esplanade park on Friday 18 May – accompanied by artist Vesta
Marimekko will celebrate the beginning of the summer season with its annual fashion show in Helsinki’s Esplanade Park on Friday 18 May 2018. The event, now organised for the 27th time, welcomes everyone and is free of charge.
This year the event is based around the theme of equality in honour of the 50th anniversary of the beloved Marimekko classic Tasaraita. The evenly striped pattern was born as a symbol of equality in 1968, when designer Annika Rimala wanted to create a new collection of everyday clothes that would suit everyone, irrespective of age or gender.
One of the most interesting newcomers in the Finnish music scene, Vesta, will perform live in the fashion shows. Besides Vesta, who released her debut album this spring, some surprise guests from different fields will also be seen on the catwalk – more about them later! The event will be hosted by journalist Maria Veitola. The fashion show is styled by stylist Minttu Vesala.
The shows will start at 11.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m., 4.00 p.m., and 5.30 p.m.
Marimekko’s outdoor fashion shows have become an integral part of Helsinki’s culture. Every year, the colourful event gathers thousands of people to celebrate the beginning of summer. This coming fashion show features gems from Marimekko’s spring and summer ready-to-wear collection, which was premiered at Paris Fashion Week last October.
