"I was dancing with brushes," said Maija Isola. In 1961, she spent many evenings and nights working in Marimekko's print factory - painting in gentle, sweeping brushstrokes to the sway of music. Meter upon meter of new patterns emerged. On one of those nights, Silkkikuikka (great crested grebe), a pattern of alluring rhythm and simplicity, saw daylight.
