Celebrating Unikko from Helsinki to Tokyo

Marimekko Day has its roots in the Esplanade Park fashion shows held in Helsinki since the early nineties. As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Unikko print, Esplanade Park bloomed this year like never before!

Since 1992, the colorful, inclusive, and open-for-all Esplanade Park fashion show has drawn thousands annually to herald the start of the summer in the heart of Helsinki. The tradition was initiated by Kirsti Paakkanen (1929–2021), Marimekko’s visionary former leader.

This year, the much-awaited Esplanade Park fashion show took place on May 17. The event was hosted by journalist Maria Veitola and Marimekko CEO Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko and featured performances by Finnish pop artist Arppa. A huge thank you to all of you who attended the shows, either at sunny Esplanade Park or online!
