Marimekko and Futuro at Helsinki Design Week
What happens when two icons of Finnish design meet almost sixty years later?
Designed by Matti Suuronen in 1968, the Futuro House represented a bold vision of the future. Almost 60 years later, American architectural heritage expert Jan van Dijs brings Futuro back into the spotlight. The installation in the Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden celebrates Suuronen’s legacy while offering new perspectives on Marimekko’s art of printmaking.
Marimekko has always existed at the intersection of art, design, fashion and architecture. The installation presents prints by textile artist and designer Vibeke Rohland, all created during a year-long residency as part of Marimekko’s Artist in residence program at its printing factory in Herttoniemi, Helsinki.

Artist in residence: Vibeke Rohland
Throughout 2024, Vibeke Rohland worked on site at the Marimekko printing factory in Helsinki, developing new artwork together with the factory team. The collaboration yielded a series of ten large-scale prints that join Marimekko's archive of more than 3,500 patterns.
