Artek + Marimekko. The art of printmaking meets the technology of wood bending.

Celebrating Artek’s 90th anniversary, Table 90D Seireeni brings together Alvar Aalto’s concept of versatile birch furniture and Marimekko’s bold and joyful essence. The Seireeni pattern is presented using marquetry on the table’s birch veneer top. Contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect, and the pattern is brought to life through the interaction between light, pattern and wood.

The direction of the surface veneer varies due to the production process, which means the pattern may appear either as a positive or a negative. This is an essential characteristic of the product and its craftsmanship.

Maija Isola, 1964

While traveling in Greece in the early 1960s, Maija Isola got inspired by the movement of water and depicted it in several fabric prints, including Seireeni (siren) from 1964. Named after the mythological sirens, the pattern also recalls the enchanting singing that lured sailors into dangerous waters.
