Materials & Dyes

Finding better materials and dyes

While quality and durability have always been key criteria for us, the environmental footprint is an increasingly important factor when choosing materials for our products. In particular, we are looking for materials that require fewer resources to produc eand support us in reaching our climate targets.

Operations
Leading by example
In recent years, we have taken significant steps to reduce the environmental impact of our own operations. As a result of continuous development work and emission offsetting, our own operations have been carbon neutral since 2020. Our own operations cover emissions from energy used at our printing factory, offices, and own retail stores globally, as well as emissions from business travel, employee commuting, certain purchases (such as leased IT), and waste generated in our operations. In the fall 2022 Marimekko committed to Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the UN Paris Climate Agreement.
