Lohkare

2011

The Finnish bedrock, stones, and minerals as well as Oiva Toikka’s glass art were the sources of inspiration for the Lohkare (boulder) design by Satu Maaranen. Part of the same collection, the Lohkare and Sora (gravel) patterns bear reference to Kivisaari, an island which had a significant role in the life of Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko. It was from there that she used to bring stones as gifts for friends and business partners all around the world.
